Is Homeopathy Just an Herbal Tincture? Not Even Close.

This seems like such an obvious question to those who use them. But it’s not.

I was reminded of this during a Joint Committee meeting for homeopathic ANSI standards—a large, formal gathering of about 60 people. Practitioners like me, medical doctors from major clinics and teaching institutions, manufacturers, brand owners, and even interested consumers.

I am humbled to sit at the table.

Someone casually stated that homeopathy starts out as essentially an herbal tincture. That comment derailed the rest of the meeting.

Because… it’s not.

Where the Confusion Begins

On the surface, the comparison makes sense.

Both herbs and homeopathy can begin with plant material. Both are prepared in liquid form. Both are used in natural health circles.

But that’s where the similarity ends.

Herbal tinctures are typically prepared at a 1:1 ratio—one part herb to one part alcohol. Occasionally, you’ll see a 1:5 preparation, but rarely more than that. These are material doses. You are taking in measurable amounts of the plant itself and the chemical constituents interact with your body’s chemistry.

Homeopathy begins differently.

From the very start, remedies are diluted at a minimum of 1:10. And that’s just the beginning of a process that continues, step by step, far beyond what we see in herbal preparations.

There are a few exceptions. For example, Calendula is often used in its “mother tincture” form (1:10, or 1X) topically in creams.

But that’s not the norm.

Why Dilution Matters More Than You Think

In natural health, we don’t always talk enough about dosage and safety. But they matter.

Too little of a substance, and you may not see results.
Too much, and the risk of side effects increases, sometimes significantly.

Even in the natural world, potency is real.

Take pennyroyal. It’s been used traditionally for pests, so I considered putting it in my garden. Until I found that it can also potentially induce abortion.
Or foxglove, a beautiful plant that gave us digitalis, a powerful heart medication.

“Natural” does not automatically mean “harmless.”

Every substance has an effect on the body.
And in the wrong context, even a helpful substance can become harmful.

Homeopathy Moves In An Entirely Different Direction

Instead of increasing concentration to increase effect, it does the opposite.

Remedies are diluted—again and again—until, in many cases, there is no measurable trace of the original substance left. What remains is not the chemistry of the source material, but its imprint.

It seems to make no sense. But this is where the genius is. Science is just beginning to catch up, and some don’t want you to know about it.

Because there is no longer a chemical dose, there are no chemical side effects.

No interactions with medications.
No risk of overdose.

And perhaps most uniquely – if the remedy is not the right match for you, nothing happens.

A Feature, Not a Flaw

If the remedy is not

the right match for you,

nothing happens.

This is one of the things I appreciate most about homeopathy.

If you accidentally take someone else’s prescription medication, the consequences can be immediate and serious. Even herbs, when used too long or at too high a dose, can create problems. I’ve seen it.

But in homeopathy, an incorrect remedy doesn’t force a reaction. It simply does nothing.

That’s not a failure of the system. It’s part of its design.

Why This Matters for You

The goal isn’t just to take a remedy.
It’s to find the right one.

Because while homeopathy is incredibly safe, it’s also precise.

That’s why I stay closely connected with my clients. I want to know:

Is it working?
What’s changing?
What still needs attention?

If something isn’t the right fit, we adjust.

No guesswork that puts your body at risk.
No unnecessary suffering while you “wait it out.”

The Bigger Picture

Understanding the difference between herbs and homeopathy is just one piece of a much larger picture.

Because true holistic care isn’t about choosing one tool over another.

It’s about knowing:

  • When a material dose is helpful
  • When a gentle stimulus is more appropriate
  • How your body is responding overall
  • And how to move forward without creating new problems along the way

This is the kind of understanding I’ll be building out more fully here so you can stop second-guessing and start making steady, informed progress.

Why fulvic acid is fundamental to health

If you’ve ever had a garden, you know your success depends a lot more on your soil than on your seed packet. Yes, if the seeds are bad, they won’t grow. But even with good strong seeds, if your soil has the consistency of rock or beach sand you won’t get anything from them. You need rich soil with plenty of nutrients for a beautiful garden.

The same concept can be applied to the human body.

Poor nutrition, chemical exposure, stress, and other factors weaken an individual’s internal ecosystem, changing how the microbes that are naturally present in the body function. Food isn’t digested and nutrients aren’t able to nourish the body. Disease is the result.

Ayurvedic medicine has traditionally used Shilajit, a resin-like substance found in rocks in the Himalayas, for building and maintaining athletic performance and mental acuity. It is an adaptogen especially helpful for chronic conditions, increasing the body’s resistance to various diseases. These benefits are attributed to high fulvic and humic acid content. But its rock source is often contaminated with heavy metals, and doesn’t absorb well. Dosing is often inconsistent based on different sources: every rock is a little bit different.

So how do we tap into the benefits without the risks?

Fulvic Acid is also found in plants such as radishes and seaweeds grown in sediments or sediment rich waters. It is anti-inflammatory as well as supportive of memory and the immune response. It is a powerful shield against the aging process.

Humic acid is a complex molecule formed from the breakdown of plant and animal matter. It is the work of micro-organisms and part of the magic behind compost in the garden. Humic acid governs the nutrient and mineral absorption process in plants, animals, and even humans. It aids in detoxification, balances the body’s pH levels and facilitates the transportation of essential nutrients into cells.

The blend of both of them combines the best of ancient Shilajit without the risks of heavy metals or inconsistent composition.

Why is this important?

Minerals and water are required for carrying nutrients as well as the transmission of nerve impulses that drive healing. If you are utilizing any sort of frequency medicine such as magnets, sound therapy, homeopathy or phototherapy, proper hydration is essential to carry those frequencies to every cell of the body and speed healing on a deep level.

Fulvic and humic acid act as soil conditioners to amend the terrain of your body so that it is conducive to health and resistant to disease. Together with pure water and organic foods, your body will begin to shine with vibrant health. The biggest difference between our generation and our grandparents’ is the quality of food. When most people grew much of their own food, fulvic and humic acids were in and on the produce. Now that commercial farming is the norm, they are not in most of the foods where they should be. We need to add it in. And remember, supplements are just that – something that comes alongside an otherwise healthy diet to promote vibrant health.
